That week in 2017 when the 'Pizzagate' story fell apart on live TV

I remember watching a reporter in Washington D.C. actually go into the pizza place and show there was no basement. It made me think, how do these stories get so big before anyone checks the basic facts? Has anyone else seen a conspiracy theory get totally shut down by something that simple?
