That time I realized I was falling for the 'lost data' conspiracy hook, line and sinker

I used to buy into the whole idea that the government was hiding all this lost ancient technology, like super batteries or free energy devices. Then I actually helped wire up a retrofitted warehouse for a guy who claimed he had 'blueprints' for one of these devices. Turned out his 'lost tech' was just a badly drawn schematic from a 1980s Popular Mechanics hoax article he found in his dad's attic. The whole thing made me wonder, how many of these 'suppressed inventions' are just misunderstandings or people not reading the fine print in old magazines? Has anyone else had a real world encounter that popped a personal conspiracy bubble?

Yeah I was pretty deep into that stuff too for a while. But after seeing that guy's "blueprint" was just a Popular Mechanics page it made me realize most of these stories are just people getting excited over nothing.

Wait, it was literally just a Popular Mechanics page and not even anything special?
