Spent $200 on a used metal detector last month and found a 1950s dog tag in my own backyard

I figured it was a waste of cash honestly, like one of those things you use twice and forget about. But after watching like 4 youtube videos on how to set the ground balance, I took it out behind my garage in Albany. First hit was a rusted bottle cap, second was a nail, but the third ping turned out to be a dog tag from 1952 buried about 6 inches down. Has anyone else had random luck with a cheap hobby purchase like that?

Picked up a beat up kayak for $50 off Facebook marketplace last summer thinking I'd use it once. First trip out I found a GoPro strapped to a log that some tourist probably lost the year before. Still using that thing three seasons later, so yeah sometimes the random cheap stuff pays off.

Make sure you check that GoPro battery isn't swelling after all this time.
