Shoutout to the weirdo at the Denver airport who swore the water fountains were monitored, I checked and now I owe him an apology
Two years ago I sat next to this older guy at gate B12 in Denver who went on for 40 minutes about how the airport water fountains get tested way more often than people think, and I flat out told him he was paranoid. Last month a buddy who works maintenance at a big terminal showed me the log sheets, and sure enough those fountains get sampled and recorded on a set schedule, way more than I ever guessed. I am not saying it is some big cover up, but the guy was right that there is a paper trail most of us never see. Curious if anyone else has looked into the actual testing rules for public buildings in their city, because now I want to know what else I wrote off too fast.
Did you ever go back and check the actual rules for your own city after that? I had something kind of like this happen with the fire alarms in my old apartment building. I always rolled my eyes at this one neighbor who kept saying the inspections were fake and nobody ever really tested anything. Then I got bored one night and looked up the local code, and there it all was, dates and records and who has to sign off on it. It is all public if you know where to look, which is the part nobody tells you. So I just started pulling the records for my building every few months and now I actually know what is going on. You might be surprised how much of that paper trail is sitting there waiting for you.
