My uncle's story about a local news report from 1998 changed how I see a famous event

He showed me a VHS tape from a small station in Ohio that covered a protest the day before a big national tragedy. The footage showed a totally different crowd mood and police setup than the official reports said later. The tape got lost when the station digitized its archives in 2005. It made me wonder how many first drafts of history just vanish. Has anyone else found old local media that contradicts the mainstream story on something?

Remember that big factory fire everyone saw on the news years ago? My buddy's dad had a police scanner recording from that night. You could hear the first units calling it in as a small electrical issue in a storage room, nothing major. The live network news an hour later was all about a huge industrial blaze with possible arson. The tone was totally different from the calm first reports. Makes you wonder what got lost between the scanner and the broadcast.
