My neighbor said the new traffic cameras are just for safety, but I looked into it

I was getting my mail yesterday and my neighbor Bob said the city put up those new cameras at the main light to stop crashes. I got curious and checked the city council notes online from three months back. The notes show a contract with a private company to run them and split the ticket money. It made me think, are they really about safety or just a cash grab? Has anyone else dug into their local camera deals?

You're right to check those contracts. The split ticket money setup creates a bad incentive where safety takes a back seat to revenue. That's why some places have actually removed their cameras after lawsuits.
