Hit 50,000 miles on my old pickup yesterday and something felt off
I was driving back from picking up lumber near Anoka, and my odometer rolled right over to 50,000. That's when I realized my truck is a 2018 model, and 50K in eight years is barely anything for a work truck around here. My buddy's dad used to say any pickup under 100K is still brand new, so I started thinking about how many people I know who swap trucks every 3 years just to avoid mileage. It made me wonder if the dealerships and manufacturers have some kind of unwritten rule to push new sales by making people scared of high mileage. Has anyone else noticed how the whole "high mileage" scare got worse around 2015 or so?

I think you might be overthinking this a bit. People have been scared of high mileage since long before 2015. Back in the 90s my uncle would never buy a car with over 60K miles because he said that's when stuff starts falling apart. The difference now is trucks are built better and last longer, so the old rules don't really apply the same way. But dealerships have always wanted to sell new vehicles, that's just business. It's not some new conspiracy. Your truck with 50K is still plenty good, but I don't think the fear of mileage is something they cooked up recently.
