Why does nobody talk about using a wet sponge on the bull float

I had crazing issues on a 400 sq ft patio in Austin last spring. After 3 tries with different water ratios, an old timer told me to just dampen the float with a sponge instead of spraying water. Crazing stopped completely. Anyone else run into this or is my water just that hard?

Oh man, hard water is the worst for concrete work. I remember doing a driveway in DFW years back where I kept getting this weird film no matter what I did. Ended up switching to a completely different mix and using distilled water for the float, felt ridiculous but it worked like a charm. Sometimes you just gotta fight fire with a sponge I guess.

Gotta disagree tbh - hard water never gave me any real trouble on pours. Maybe it's a regional thing or your mix was off from the start.
