Update: I stopped fighting the sun and started pouring earlier
For like 6 years I always scheduled pours for mid morning thinking it gave the mix time to set before the heat hit. Last month in Phoenix I had a 4 yard job dry out on me by 1pm, crap finish. My old foreman from back in Ohio told me to start at 5am and use a frost blanket trick he picked up in Vegas. Basically you pour before dawn, keep the surface damp with a misting hose, and you buy yourself a couple extra hours of working time. Did that last Tuesday on a driveway in Mesa and the finish was night and day better. Has anyone else switched to dawn starts or is that just a desert thing?

Switched to dawn pours about two years ago after a similar mess here in Tucson. The difference is unreal, especially in June and July when the sun is brutal by 8am. That misting hose trick works wonders, I keep a cheap sprinkler on a timer now. Its not just a desert thing either, my cousin does it in Texas and swears by it for the same reason.
