The old finisher in Phoenix swore by a push broom for this slab, and I owe him an apology
Last month we poured a 30x40 garage slab in Phoenix and the foreman kept telling me to skip the float and hit it with a push broom right after the bleed water left. I laughed at him because I've always run a magnesium float first, no exceptions. He bet me a coffee that the broom would pull a cleaner finish with fewer trowel marks, so I gave it a shot on one half of the pour. Sure enough, that side came out tight and even, and my floated side had two rough spots I had to patch by hand. Now I'm wondering what other old tricks I've been blowing off, anyone here still using a broom straight off the screed?
