Talked to a guy from the 70s about finishing and it wrecked my confidence

I was bitching about a slab that wouldn't take a broom finish to this retired finisher at the supply yard, and he just said "son, you're working the cream too long before you even touch the broom." He was right, I was overworking my surface before floating. Made me think about how I've been rushing my process for the last 2 years. Anybody else get set straight by an old timer they met by accident?
