Spent 3 hours trying to fix a small crack in my driveway patch job

So I had this tiny hairline crack in my garage apron that I figured would take maybe 30 minutes to fill. Three hours later I was still out there grinding it out because the crack kept opening up wider the more I worked it. Turns out there was a whole weak spot underneath I didn't see at first. Has anyone else had a simple fix turn into a whole day project?

Honestly that hit too close to home. I started filling a tiny crack in my sidewalk last summer and ended up chiseling out a whole corner of the slab because it was all crumbling underneath. Three hours turned into two days and a trip to Home Depot for a bag of concrete mix. Ngl I just stood there staring at the hole at one point wondering how I got there.

Is it really that deep though? I mean yeah its annoying when a small fix snowballs but at the end of the day you just fixed a sidewalk @noah_rivera57. Maybe im just too used to just letting stuff slide until it actually breaks.
