I laughed at the guy in Bakersfield who said to finish in the rain, then he saved my pour
I was pouring a 30x40 slab in Bakersfield last March when a contractor told me to keep finishing even though it was misting, and I thought he was nuts because everyone says water on fresh concrete is a death sentence. Turns out he meant just enough moisture to keep the surface workable for that 20 minute window before the 90 degree sun crusted it over, and my edges came out cleaner than any pour I did all year. Has anyone else changed their mind on working in light rain, or do you still shut it down the second a drop hits?
My buddy had the total opposite thing happen last summer in Fresno. He was doing a driveway pour and a light drizzle started, so he panicked and threw plastic over the whole thing. Ended up with a mess of a surface because the plastic stuck and left wrinkles everywhere. The finisher who came out after told him he should've just kept working it, that a little mist actually helps slow the cure when it's 100 out. He was kicking himself for weeks over it. Now he swears light rain is his friend as long as it's not coming down hard.
