Took me 6 months to realize I was plugging the hard drive cables in upside down

I was wresting with a stubborn SATA connector on a client's old Dell last Tuesday and it finally clicked why my drives kept failing - I had the L-bend facing the wrong way the whole time. Has anyone else had one of those 'oh duh' moments that made you feel like a total rookie?

Man I did the same thing with an old Western Digital drive back in 2018, spent like two hours troubleshooting before I realized the power cable was just rotated 180 degrees. Made me feel like a complete idiot standing there in my own basement.

@ryand26 what kind of drive was it exactly? I ask because I've seen some older WD drives where the power connector is keyed differently than the newer ones. Sometimes you really gotta push them in hard to get a good connection, and if you're not careful it feels like you broke something. Was it one of those green label drives or the blue ones? I had a similar problem with a WD Blue drive a few years ago and the power cable just would not seat right no matter what angle I tried. Ended up having to swap out the cable from a different power supply to get it to work.
