Shoutout to the old Dell server I brought back from the dead yesterday
A school in my town was going to toss a PowerEdge R720 with a failed RAID controller, but I swapped in a spare from my parts bin and got their whole student database running again. The look on the IT guy's face when the drives spun up was worth the three hours of messing with configs. What's the oldest piece of hardware you've managed to save recently?

That look on the IT guy's face is the whole reward. I see it everywhere now, this quiet win when something old just works again. My neighbor was about to buy a new printer because of a paper jam, but it was just one stubborn sheet stuck in the back. Felt like a hero for ten minutes. We're so quick to replace things.

Know exactly what you mean. That small win feels better than buying something new. We forget how good it is to just fix what's already there.

@taylor_burns72 makes a good point about printers, but that student database recovery is a whole different level. Desktops and printers are one thing - keeping a database server alive when the school's whole student info is on the line is real pressure. Those three hours of config time probably saved someone a week of data entry work.
