Picked a used HP ProDesk over a new Dell OptiPlex for a client build last month
Saved them $250 upfront but the HP's power supply crapped out after 3 weeks and I had to eat the labor on the swap, so now I'm wondering if anyone else has had better luck with refurbished business desktops in a pinch?

Kept a dead HP ProDesk on my shelf for a month as a reminder that saving money is a lie. Swapped the power supply and now it sits there judging me silently while I pay for my choices. Did the math and figured I broke even at best once you factor in my time and the two cups of coffee I needed to stay calm during the replacement. Refurbished business desktops work great until they remind you why businesses sold them off in the first place.

Friend of mine bought a whole batch of those Dell Optiplex off-lease units. He thought he was being smart and saved like 300 bucks per machine. Six months in, three of them had failed power supplies, one had a dead hard drive, and another one just refused to boot one morning with zero warning. He spent his weekends swapping parts and yelling at his own computer desk. I helped him toss one out the window into a dumpster last spring just to feel something. He still uses the survivors but he talks about them like they're gambling debts he can't shake.
