Old modem firmware update fixed a nagging issue I had for months

I was troubleshooting a customer's home network in Austin last week and found out their modem's firmware was from 2020. The manufacturer's site didn't even show the update in the normal support section. After flashing the new firmware, their random dropouts stopped completely. Anyone else dig into modem firmware as a first step or just me?

Wait, 2020? That firmware was three years old?

@jason11 yeah but "three years old" doesn't mean much for firmware. My 2019 unit still runs great on that version. Newer isn't always better.

@jason11 I mean yeah its kinda crazy but honestly most people would never notice a firmware version unless its literally broken. Not saying its not a good fix but maybe the dropouts were just a coincidence or something else going on. I've had modems that ran fine for years on old firmware til the ISP pushed an update that messed everything up.
