Heard a client say 'it's just a computer, how hard can it be' while I was working on their water-damaged laptop last Wednesday

They had spilled a full soda into the keyboard and expected a 10 minute fix. I spent 3 hours cleaning corrosion off the motherboard and still had to tell them the logic board was toast. Has anyone else had a client seriously underestimate how much goes into this job?

In my experience, setting expectations upfront saves everyone headaches. I started telling people right away that water damage usually means a full teardown and no guarantees, which cut down on the shock factor a lot.

Yeah but some people get so defensive when you tell them that upfront though... like they think you're just trying to get out of doing the job. Had a guy last month swear up and down his phone just needed "a quick dry out".
