It was magnetized to the hard drive the whole time.

The_alice has a point about magnetized tools risking data. I always figured that was an old tech myth, like thinking a fridge magnet could wipe a drive. Then I saw a buddy lose a whole project file just by resting a magnetized pick on his external drive casing. Now I keep my tools in a separate tray, no exceptions.
