Client's laptop died during a 3 hour data recovery, here's what saved me
I was in the middle of pulling photos off a dead drive for a wedding photographer when my bench laptop just shut off, no warning, mid transfer. Turned out the power supply in that old Dell had been running hot for weeks and finally gave out around 2pm on a Friday. I grabbed a spare brick from the parts bin, but the drive had already started making that clicking noise, so I pulled it and swapped it into my own tower instead. Got 41 of the 43 gigs back and lost two raw files, which honestly could have been way worse. Has anyone else had a bench rig die mid job, and do you keep a hot spare ready or just roll the dice?

Kept a spare brick zip tied to the bench after mine fried.
