Appreciation post: A client's simple comment about my cable work made me rethink everything
About three months back, a regular client watched me finish a desktop build and said, 'Looks great, but I can't get to my flash drive without moving the whole tower.' I was so focused on making the back panel perfect that I forgot the front ports. Now, I always leave a clear, six-inch loop of slack for the front panel USB and audio cables before I zip-tie the main bundle. It takes an extra minute, but it makes a real difference for the person using the machine. How do you guys handle front panel cable management without making it a mess?

We get so caught up in the "right" way to do things that we forget who it's for, don't we? It's like hiding the TV remote in a perfect drawer.

My old apartment had a light switch hidden behind a door, and I lived with that for two years. @elizabethhunt is right, we design things to look clean but forget how people actually use them. I mean, I've seen kitchen remodels where the paper towel holder is across from the sink. It's like we're solving for looks, not for living.
