Vent: Borrowing a neighbor's drill vs buying my own for that shelf project

I spent 3 days waiting for my neighbor to bring back my drill bit set. Finally caved and bought a $40 Ryobi kit from Home Depot. Has anyone else had a tool library borrow turn into a 2-week saga?

My neighbor's drill has been on a cross-country road trip for all I know... Wouldn't be surprised if it came back with a sunburn and a new bumper sticker.

My Ryobi kit from 2019 finally died last month after 6 years of light use, so you will probably get good value out of that $40. I have to gently point out something to @hugo_moore though - if your neighbor's drill went on a road trip, a sunburn would be the least of its worries. More likely it would come back with sawdust in every crevice and a dead battery from being left in a hot car. The real issue is that people treat borrowed tools like rental cars and figure someone else will deal with the maintenance. I think buying your own is almost always better if you can afford it, especially for something as basic as a drill.
