Watching a guy in Galveston change his whole dive setup made me rethink my approach

I was sitting on the dock last Saturday just waiting out a surface interval and this old timer came over to rinse his gear. He showed me how he runs his umbilical through a carabiner on his weight belt instead of just letting it hang loose. Has anyone else tried routing their hoses different to manage drag better?

Yeah that carabiner trick is brilliant, I started clipping my octo to my chest D-ring and it changed everything underwater.

My buddy tried that setup last month on a night dive off Catalina. He got his primary reg tangled in some kelp and had to switch to his octo real quick. He said the chest mount kept it right there instead of flopping around behind him. Took him like 2 minutes to find the backup before that. Now he swears by it too.
