Vent: Spent $400 on a fancy titanium dive knife and it barely survived 2 months
Everybody told me titanium was the way to go for saltwater diving, so I bought this $400 knife from a shop in Houston. Second month of commercial work, the tip snapped off prying a grate that a steel knife would have handled fine. Anyone else have bad luck with expensive titanium gear underwater?

Honestly a $400 titanium knife snapping off like that hurts my soul, almost as bad as the time I spent $600 on a carbon fiber shovel that shattered on my first gravel pile. Tbh titanium is great for corrosion but it's not the toughest stuff when you really need to pry something. Ngl that sounds like a tool for show, not for actual commercial work.

Gotta disagree with you there man. Titanium isn't just for show, it's all about the right heat treat and design. A $400 knife from a reputable brand should absolutely hold up to prying if it's built for that, but most knives aren't pry bars anyway. That carbon fiber shovel story sucks though, but carbon fiber is known for being brittle under impact, so that's kind of expected. A good titanium tool can take a beating if the geometry is right and it's not some cheap import with thin edges. Why would you use a shovel on gravel in the first place though?
