Tried a new wireless comms unit versus my old hardwire setup and the difference in a silt-out was night and day

You're right about the night and day difference. I mean, the big thing for me is just the mental load. With a hardwire, part of your brain is always tracking that cable, feeling the tug, worrying about a snag. In a silt-out, that's one less thing to panic about. You can just focus on your buddy and getting stable, without that little voice wondering if your comms are about to get yanked out.

Tell me about it, terryrobinson. My brain can barely handle one task.
