Took me 3 years to realize I was diving with my weight belt on backwards

Gotta laugh at yourself on that one, I've done similar stuff. It's funny how we can do something for years without ever stopping to think if we're doing it right. I notice this same pattern everywhere, like how people load the dishwasher or hang toilet paper the "wrong" way without knowing. We just get into a routine and our brain goes on autopilot, never questioning the little things. That's why I always try to step back and look at stuff from a fresh angle once in a while, even if it feels dumb at first.

Pile on here, I once spent a whole year peeling carrots the wrong way. I was gripping the peeler backwards, flipping the carrot around in my hand like a lunatic. Took me twelve months to realize you just hold the peeler normally and slide it down the carrot. Felt like a complete idiot when I figured it out. But now I check smallest stuff, like how I tie my shoes or butter toast, just to see if I'm doing it stupid without knowing. Your brain on autopilot is a dangerous thing.
