The weird thing I keep seeing with diver's watches underwater

Okay, so I was on a job last week in the Gulf, inspecting a rig leg at about 90 feet. I see this new guy checking his watch, and he's holding it right up to his face mask, like he's trying to read a tiny book. The thing is, the bezel on a proper dive watch is meant to be set before you go down, to track your bottom time. You don't need to read the actual time down there (your tender is tracking that topside). I've seen at least three different guys do this exact move in the last six months. It just makes me laugh, because you're fumbling for no reason. Anyone else notice this, or am I just watching people too closely?

Just set the bezel and forget it.

Seems like overkill for a watch. It's a tool, not a life support system. People take this stuff way too seriously.
