That $40 led lens from Harbor Freight actually paid for itself today
My buddy Dave who ran a salvage crew in the Gulf for 15 years kept telling me to carry a spare focus light lens, said it's the first thing to crack on a deep wreck dive. I figured he was just being paranoid, but sure enough last Thursday on a 60 foot barge inspection near Mobile Bay, my primary lens split right at the seal and started flooding the housing. Popped in the cheap backup he told me to grab, finished the job in 35 minutes without surfacing, and now I keep two spares in the truck. Anyone else got a piece of gear they'd never run without after one close call?

Used to think Dave was just trying to sound cool with all his old diver stories. Figured a spare lens was overkill when I already carried a whole backup light. Then mine flooded on a simple inspection and I lost like 20 minutes messing with it before giving up and grabbing the cheap one. That little piece of plastic saved my whole day, so now every bag I own has at least one rattling around in it. Dave was right, and I tell him so every chance I get.
