Switching to a surface buoyancy check changed my dive game

Last season, I got lazy with my pre-dive routine and had a bad scare when I rose up too fast from depth. That moment pushed me to start testing my buoyancy on the surface every time I get in the water. Now, I always take a minute to check my weight belt and BCD vents while I float before going down. This simple habit has made my descents way more steady and my work below less shaky. I use less air because I'm not correcting my position all the time, and I finish dives feeling less worn out. It seems like a small step, but it really improved how I handle each job. What small changes have made a big impact on your dives?

Wait... you rose up that fast without checking?

Got a speeding ticket last year for doing 85 in a 65. I mean I just zoned out and my foot got heavy. Makes me double check the speedometer now for sure.

Yeah, the "without checking" part hits different now. I used to think it was no big deal, just a little over the limit. But seeing what happened to paul549, getting that ticket for 85, it really made me stop and think. It's way too easy to let your speed creep up without noticing. Now I'm paranoid about it, constantly glancing down. That one story totally changed how I drive.
