Rant: My log book hit 1,000 commercial dives and I felt nothing, and that bugs me
So I flipped to the last page of my log book last week and the running count came up to 1,002 dives, and I sat there in my truck in Morgan City waiting for something to hit me. Nothing did. I remember my 100th dive back in 2011, I bought a cheap cake for the crew and felt like hot stuff. But somewhere between then and now the number just turned into paperwork I sign so the office stays happy. Part of it is that half those dives were shallow pier inspections and dock work, not the deep stuff that used to scare me, so counting them all in one pile feels like a lie. I guess what got me is that the number stopped meaning skill and started meaning I've just been showing up a long time. Any of you keep a hard count, and does it feel like a badge or just a form you fill out?
