Ran a 4 inch trash pump on my first dewatering job instead of a 2 inch and it was a whole different world
Last week we were dewatering a cofferdam on a bridge pier job outside Mobile and the 2 inch pump we started with just could not keep up. We were fighting the water all morning, losing maybe 3 inches of head every hour, and the whole crew was standing around waiting on me. Swapped to a 4 inch trash pump after lunch and pulled the same pit down 5 feet in about 40 minutes. The bigger pump moves so much more volume that you can actually stay ahead of the seep instead of chasing it. Only thing to watch is you need a bigger discharge line or the hose will fight you the whole time. Anyone else get burned on a job because they sized the pump too small out of habit?
