PSA: My comms cable got chewed by a curious grouper off Key Largo

Was on a hull clean last week when my surface feed went dead. Looked down to see a 4-foot grouper just munching on the cable like it was spaghetti. Had to surface and use hand signals for the rest of the job. Anyone have a good trick for keeping fish away from your gear?

Man that grouper story is too real. Had a triggerfish get obsessed with my console hose once, kept pecking at the pressure gauge. Ended up wrapping that section in an old bike inner tube, the black rubber kind. Seems to confuse them when it's not shiny. Still find teeth marks sometimes but no cuts yet.
