Just realized the old barge tie-off I saw at the Houma dock looks nothing like how we do it offshore
Watched a deckhand wrap a cleat 3 times with a figure eight and it held a 40 foot crew boat in a strong current. Made me wonder how much of what we call 'proper' rigging is just what the first guy who trained us liked.
