Had a total comms failure at 80 feet on a bridge job in Mobile

My umbilical got a kink and the surface crew couldn't hear a thing. I had to switch to hand signals and bang on the steel to get their attention. Anyone ever have to improvise like that when the gear just quits?

That umbilical kink is a perfect example of how everything relies on a thin wire these days. We put all our trust in tech that can fail with one twist. Makes you wonder how we ever got anything done before radios.

Actually, the umbilical cord is a bundle of cables and hoses, not just a single wire. It's pretty tough stuff. But yeah, we do rely on some fragile tech.
