Gulf of Mexico dive site turned into a trash pit since last season

Went back to a wreck I've been diving for years off Pensacola last weekend. The difference was sickening. Beer cans, fishing line, and a busted cooler all tangled around the mooring line. I spent my whole bottom time hauling garbage instead of looking at the structure. The charter operator said they've seen it get worse every summer. I get that people want to fish and party out there, but who drops their trash on a wreck and calls it a day? Had to cut a length of line off an anchor that could've wrapped a diver easy. Anyone else seeing their regular spots get trashed? What do you do about it, just report it to someone or clean what you can?

You tried talking to the charter operator about it? I did the same thing on my regular lake spot and they actually started handing out mesh bags to divers and telling people to bring up what they find. Now we have a small group that does a cleanup dive once a month, we pull out the big junk and log it for the local dive shop to report. Takes an hour of our dive time but beats watching the place die.
