Got my umbilical snagged on a wreck in Lake Michigan last month
I was inspecting a sunken barge at 140 feet when my line caught on a sharp piece of hull. I had to cut a section of my comms cable to get free and surface. What's the best way you guys carry a spare splice kit for a quick fix topside?

Ever see what happens when a comms cable gets pinched in a lift bag D-ring? My buddy had his whole line go dead on a deco stop after a similar snag. He keeps a spare splice kit now in a small Pelican case strapped to his rig's waistband, not in a bag he has to open. The kit has a couple of pre-stripped connectors, heat shrink, and a tiny crimper. He says if you have to fumble through a gear bag on a rocking boat, you might as well not have it.

That "fumble through a gear bag" thing is life.
