Divemaster at my last job said to check the umbilical every single splash, and I brushed it off
Last month in Galveston I was getting ready for a shallow inspection and the divemaster told me to run my hand down the whole umbilical before I got in, every time. I figured it was overkill since we'd just tested it, so I skipped it on the second dive. Halfway down I felt the hose pull tight and found a kink right at the manifold that could have cut my air. Now I do the full hand check every splash no matter what, and it takes maybe 10 seconds. Any of you got a pre-splash habit like that, something small that saved your hide?
