Cutting a stuck shackle pin with a zip disc after my hammer trick failed
Spent 40 minutes in 30 feet of murky water at the Bremerton dock last Tuesday trying to drift out a seized shackle pin with a hammer, and what finally worked was swimming up to the truck for a 5 inch zip disc and slicing a flat on the pin so a wrench could grab it, so has anyone else had luck with that or do you just cut the whole shackle off and eat the cost?
Skipping the wrench trick and just cutting the whole shackle off makes more sense to me, since a sliced pin can still fight you and you've lost the shackle either way. Why mess with a half fix when a full cut gets you back on the boat faster?
