A tender said my umbilical was "a trip hazard" and I got mad for a week before I actually watched the video
Last month I was doing a pier inspection job down in Port Aransas and the tender on my crew kept telling me my hose runs were sloppy, and I brushed it off because honestly who cares when you are 20 feet down in murky water. Then he pulled up the video from the surface cam and I watched myself drag 80 feet of umbilical across the walkway three separate times in one dive, and one of those times a guy carrying gear almost ate it. He didn't yell at me or write anything up, he just said "watch your own tape, man" and left it at that. So the next dive I started paying attention to how I dressed the line out before I even hit the water, keeping it on the seaward side of the rail, and the whole thing took me maybe 20 extra seconds. The difference on the surface was huge, nobody was hopping over my hose and my communications guy said he could hear me way better without the line rubbing the rail the whole dive. I've been diving 9 years and I still got humbled by a camera and a guy who's been tending for longer than I've been wet. Curious if anyone else here changed their line management after getting called out like that, or is it just me who had to see it on video to get it?
