Pro tip: That freecodecamp.org course actually helped me land a gig

I was stuck on html/css for like 6 months just watching youtube tutorials and not getting anywhere. Then I went to a local coding meetup in Austin last month and this guy told me to just grind through the responsive web design cert on freecodecamp. Finished it in 3 weeks and got my first freelance project doing a landing page for a coffee shop. Has anyone else had luck with their certs or is it just me?

Wait, you finished the whole responsive web design cert in 3 weeks? That's nuts. I've been dragging my feet on it for like two months and I'm barely halfway through the flexbox stuff. The coffee shop landing page sounds cool though... what kind of stuff did you put on there?

Anna I get where you're coming from but I think 3 weeks is doable if you really grind. I did the same thing with the freeCodeCamp JavaScript cert last year and I was basically coding from 7am to midnight every day. Yeah I didn't sleep much and my wrists hurt but it's possible. The coffee shop thing sounds nice though. Maybe they put a menu with prices and hours on it. That's usually what small shops want.

Wait, "3 weeks" to finish the whole responsive web design cert? I gotta call mild BS on that unless you were literally doing nothing else all day. Like, not even taking breaks for food or sleep. I'm with you @the_drew on dragging feet through flexbox though - that stuff is tedious. I mean, congrats on the coffee shop landing page, but let's be real here, a basic landing page for a local shop is more about who you know than what you know (not trying to knock your hustle, just saying). Are we really gonna act like one certificate is the magic key to freelancing, or is it more about having the time and luck to actually finish it?
