Pro tip: I was sure learning Git was a waste of time for a beginner, but I was wrong.

I started a small project last month and tried to keep track of my code changes by just saving new files with different names, like 'project_v1.py'. It got messy fast. My friend in Chicago told me to just spend an hour on the free GitHub tutorial, and now I can't imagine coding without it. How long did it take you to feel comfortable with version control?

Read a blog calling it a digital safety net.

Call it a safety net, but who's actually holding the rope? That phrase gets thrown around a lot to make us feel better. Does it mean real backup and control, or just another locked-in service pretending to protect us? I need to know what that blog defined as the actual "safety" part before I buy the idea.
