Pro tip: hearing 'just Google it' from a senior dev at a meetup in Austin made me rethink how I teach new coders
I was at a beginner JavaScript meetup in Austin last Thursday and a senior dev told a room of like 30 newbies to just Google everything instead of asking questions. That stuck with me all weekend. Here is my problem with it: when you are brand new, you do not even know what to search for yet, that is the whole skill you are missing. For me the fix was simple, I started writing down my errors word for word and pasting them into the search bar instead of typing my whole life story. My success rate went from maybe guessing right half the time to actually fixing things in under 10 minutes. So is telling beginners to just Google it helpful advice, or is it just a way for people to avoid answering real questions?
