I took an intro programming class back in 2012 at a community college near Cleveland and we had this giant paperback that weighed like 3 pounds. You couldn't run anything without a lab pass and half the time the compiler threw errors about line 1 that made no sense to me. Last week my 13 year old nephew showed me how he learned a for loop from a short video on his phone, then built a little number guessing game right there in the browser. The gap is wild, but I'm not sure if easier starts make people quit sooner or stick around longer. Did learning to code get too easy, or is it just a different kind of hard now?
