My coworker told me to stop using tutorials and just read the docs - worst advice I ever got

Been learning Python for about 2 months now. Last week a senior dev at work said I was wasting time with online courses and should just look at the official documentation. Spent 4 hours trying to figure out a basic file read function from the Python docs and got nowhere. The docs assume you already understand all the terms. Went back to my tutorial and had it working in 20 minutes. Has anyone else had someone give them advice that sounded smart but just made things worse?

RealPython tutorials saved me too, docs made zero sense at first.
