Hot take: a guy at the library said to learn C first for the basics.
He said it forces you to understand memory and how the computer works. But my friend says starting with something like JavaScript is better because you see results faster. Which side do you think is right for a total beginner?

Why do people always turn this into a fight? Look, the C guy is not wrong, but telling a total beginner to start there is like teaching someone to drive with a manual transmission on a highway during a storm. Sure, you'll learn a lot, but you'll also want to quit forever. JavaScript lets you build a dumb website in an hour and feel like you did something. That feeling keeps people going. Start with what keeps you from throwing your laptop out the window.

My friend tried to learn C first and spent three weeks trying to print "hello world" without a segfault. He's a barista now. The motivation argument is real.
