Trip to a scrappery outside Detroit reset my whole setup

Watched a guy there pull a 20 year old Mazak off a truck and have it cutting square in under an hour. He just tapped the spindle with a brass hammer while it was still warm. Made me question every cold start and tight tolerance I've babied for the last 5 years. Anyone else ever have a machine act better when you stop treating it like glass?
