The tool I borrowed once still owes me a drink

Last Tuesday a guy from the next bay over, Pete, handed me his old adjustable reamer when mine snapped mid-finish on a 4-hour job. He didn't say much, just pointed at the chuck and said, "Run it slow, let the flutes do the work." I'd been cranking RPMs like a rookie for years, and that one tip cut my chatter noise in half. We got to talking after shift, and he told me about running the same reamer for 11 years on everything from brass to Inconel. I ordered my own set that night, but now I'm paranoid about loaning tools out. Has anyone else had a stranger's trick totally fix a habit you thought was fine?

Man, that Pete sounds like a goldmine, and now I'm scared to lend out my torque wrench too.
