The old machinist in Toledo who kept saying 'let the insert do the work, not your hands' finally got through to me
I burned through 4 carbide inserts in a week trying to push my feed rate by feel, so I slowed down to the speeds and feeds chart taped to the machine door and those same 4 inserts lasted me 3 months, and now I'm wondering how many of you learned this the hard way or had someone drill it into your head on day one?
