The fancy digital height gage I swore I'd never need saved my butt on a rush job last Friday

I've always been a dial indicator and calipers guy. Thought those $600+ digital height gages with the little screen were just for guys with more money than sense. Then I had a rush job for a batch of 50 aluminum brackets with 3 critical heights within 0.0005 inches. After the third reject, I borrowed my buddy's Mitutoyo and had the whole fixture dialed in within 20 minutes. Now I'm shopping for my own. Has anyone else had a tool they laughed at turn into a must-have?

Man, I totally snorted at that one guy in the shop with his fancy digital stuff until I needed to hold a tenth on a rush order and my old calipers made me look like a caveman. Now I'm googling Mitutoyo models before bed like some kind of nerd.

Oh man, are you seriously switching to digitals just for that one high-stakes rush job?
