Talked to a retired toolmaker yesterday and he made me rethink my speeds and feeds completely

He said I'm running my HSS endmills way too fast and that I should drop my spindle speed by about 30 percent for better tool life. I've been doing it my way for 5 years, but after trying his suggestion on a stainless job today the finish came out way smoother. Anyone else get advice from an old timer that flipped your whole approach?

The real trick is listening to the chips, not the numbers.
